Certainly one of the main parts of your playground is the surface you choose to build it on. Playground floors come with many different options to consider, many of which are risky. With poor surfaces the results can be destructive! Children can and “will”, fall from the play ground equipment. The results of the injuries will rely upon where they land.
You have to keep in mind that concrete, asphalt, and black colored top are completely hazardous and unacceptable surfaces to build your playground on. Believe it or not… grass, soil, and jam-packed earth are equally hazardous as well. Simply put the wear and tear of the elements conditions can make for an unsafe getting for children. The gemstone you propose should be away from tree roots, woods stumps, rocks and other debris that can cause injury. Make sure to check for dangerous materials such as broken glass, and other sharp objects that are in the surface part of your playground equipment. Clearly these are incredibly important factors to consider while working on this job
There are some very safe materials to consider using. These will make certain you produce a very safe recreation space for the children. You can fill up your playground surface with materials such as, pea gravel, shredded rubber, real wood chips, sand, or even mulch is very successful too! Keep in brain if you choose real wood chips for your surface they should be free of (CCA) chromated birdwatcher arsenate. This is a chemical that can create as a health threat.
When deciding which materials to use for your playground surface please keep in mind these many of these very important elements. If your play ground is NO HIGHER than 8ft. your surface materials should be at at a minimum 12 inches deep. Preserve the material loose and do not pack it down. Your playground surface should be at the very least 6ft. beyond the playground equipment. If the slide is higher or the swings are low you may need more coverage. Children or men and women in wheel chairs can be accommodated using plastic mats for a soft and even surface. If perhaps your playground is over a hard surface and possess used loose fill you must: have 3-6 more inches of loose load, a layer of geo-textile cloth, layer more loose fill again and then add impact mats.
In case the combined height of the playground equipment and the kid is higher than 12 foot (standing on the top platform) this is consider extremely unsafe.
With all the years I use spent in “safe” playgrounds with my own children as well others, you are unable to prevent all injuries from happening. The higher your playground is, the better the severity of the injury. Keep in brain that nothing replaces good old fashioned adult oversight.
Injury free kids are happier and so are their families.
I really hope all parents, teachers, and mature supervisors realize the value of the playground area.
